FAQ
WHY WAS SQUAREONE® CREATED?
Because the world deserves something better! We've been stuck with growlers, which don't keep beer fresh, hokey pressurized contraptions that simply don't work that well, or large, cumbersome kegerators that most of us simply don't have room for.
WHY IS SQUAREONE® SO COOL?
Grab one and walk into a local brewery with it, or use it at your next party. You will see!
WHAT IS SQUAREONE® MADE OUT OF?
The SquareOne® is constructed using premium single-walled, stainless-steel.
WHAT KINDS OF BEVERAGES CAN YOU PUT IN SQUAREONE®?
Take your keg to have it filled with craft beer from a local brewery or growler station, or with cold brew at a local coffee house. You can also batch wine, champagne, and cocktails. Even non-alcoholic drinks, such as iced-tea, sodas, and mocktails!
HOW DO YOU CLEAN SQUAREONE®?
Use hot water and a dash of dish soap inside SquareOne® and rinse well. Repeat the same with all tap components, EXCLUDING the co2 regulator. DO NOT SUBMERGE REGULATOR IN WATER. Cleaning instructions: HOW IT WORKS – Square Keg (thesquarekeg.com)
HOW MUCH DOES SQUAREONE® HOLD?
It holds an impressive 128+ ounces. Yep, that's almost a 12-pack, or 5 bottles of wine, or 20+ cocktails, at a time!
WHAT IS THE MAX USAGE PRESSURE?
There is a max usage pressure of 20 PSI for the SquareOne® keg, 10 PSI for the SquareOne® 2.0 keg, and 45 PSI for the SquareOne-Nitro® keg.
CAN YOU FILL THE KEG WITH BOTTLED/CANNED BEVERAGES?
Yes, you can use canned/bottled beverages to fill your keg! You can also take your keg to a local brewery that does growler fills, and they should be able to directly fill up your keg instead of having to use a separate growler. After filling it with your chosen beverage, the use of CO2 is what helps maintain the carbonation. Carbonated beverages will typically stay fresh for up to two weeks. After filling or transporting your keg, allow the beverage to settle for a bit in the fridge before tapping. Start with a lower PSI of maybe 1-3 for the first couple pours, then increase as needed until you reach your chosen pour/carbonation-level for that particular beverage. Keep in mind as well, if you are pouring from bottled/canned beer, it is foamier, so we typically recommend utilizing a funnel to pour them in.
HOW TIGHT DOES THE TAP SYSTEM CAP NEED TO BE?
The tap system cap doesn't have to be tightened metal to metal in order to seal and function properly. Our proprietary design enables the O-ring of the cap to engage and fully seal with the keg fitting, before being iron clad tight. In short, you want the tap faucet to be positioned at the keg end, so once you screw in the cap and you feel resistance with the O-ring, you are sealed.
WILL THERE BE OTHER, LARGER SIZES OF SQUAREKEGS?
You know it! Follow us on IG and FB for new developments.
WHAT IS THE IDEAL USAGE PRESSURE FOR DISPENSING CARBONATED BEVERAGES, SUCH AS BEER?
Start with a lower PSI of maybe 1-3 for the first couple pours, then increase as needed until you reach your chosen pour/carbonation-level for that particular beverage. The 5-7 PSI range is what we find works well with most beer types, but you can definitely adjust it based on the drink. For example, most enjoy mixed drinks at higher PSI's.
WHY IS THE FIRST POUR A LITTLE FOAMY?
Because although SquareOne® is small, it still behaves like a keg. There are a few things that can help with foaminess though! First, after filling or transporting your keg, allow the beverage to settle for a bit before tapping. If you are pouring from bottled/canned beer, it is foamier, so we recommend utilizing a funnel to pour them into the keg (to reduce excess foam during the fill). Start with a lower PSI of maybe 1-3 for the first couple pours, then increase as needed until you reach your chosen pour/carbonation-level for that particular beverage. Also, ensuring that you open the tap handle all the way when dispensing also helps eliminate excess foam during the pour.
WHAT IF I NEED TO DECREASE THE PSI?
If the beverage was initially tapped at too high of a PSI. There may have been too much gas initially added into the keg, thus infusing the beverage with too much carbonation, which could cause excessive foaminess. The purge-valve will need to be used if needing to decrease the pressure. The regulator sets the pressure that goes into the keg, and the purge-valve will allow you to release any pressure. For example, if you have the pressure set to 10 PSI, but you want to decrease it to 5 PSI, first change the regulator setting to 5 instead of 10. Then, pull the purge-valve a tiny bit until the pressure decreases down to 5. The regulator will regulate the pressure from there, adding more gas (if needed) to maintain the 5 PSI setting. To eliminate going to too high of a PSI and over infusing the beverage with CO2, we recommend starting at a lower PSI and then increase as needed, until you reach your chosen pour/carbonation-level for that particular beverage.
DOES SQUAREKEG™ SHIP INTERNATIONAL?
Unfortunately, at this time we are unable to ship internationally, as gas cartridges cannot be shipped via air freight. We can ship all other items! But you would need to source gas cartridges locally.
HOW LONG DOES THE CO2 KEEP BEER FRESH?
SquareOne® is pressurized using 16-gram, threaded, beverage-grade CO2 cartridges. You can expect to keep your beer fresh for up to a couple weeks!
DOES SQUAREONE® KEEP BEER COLD?
SquareOne® is a stainless-steel keg, just like larger commercial size kegs. To keep cold, leave in your fridge or place in a cooler with ice. Voila!
WHAT IS THE BLACK RUBBER COVER FOR?
The black rubber cover is intended to place over the faucet opening while in your refrigerator, to prevent any drippage inside the fridge. A slight drip is normal with all kegs, due to the pressure; even industrial kegs unfortunately deal with this slight drip issue. Usually, solutions for that drip tend to be drip trays in the industrial space, but the included drip cap is our solution to this problem! The drip cap is included in the box with the faucet and should be used in between pours.
WHAT ARE THE EXTRA O-RINGS AND GASKETS FOR?
They are strictly backups, and you will likely never need them.
CAN YOU USE NITROGEN CARTRIDGES WITH THE STANDARD SQUAREONE®?
No, the standard SquareOne® and regulator are designed to function with the working pressures of a CO2 or Argon cartridge. Nitrogen cartridges are packaged with a much higher PSI. The SquareOne-Nitro® keg is constructed using a thicker stainless steel; the nitro-regulator is also built to withstand higher pressure than our standard keg.
WHAT DO I NEED TO STORE WINE OR NON–CARBONATED DRINKS?
If you are looking for wine capabilities, the main difference would be the gas cartridge being used. The SquareOne® Bundle comes with CO2 gas cartridges. The SquareOne-Vino® Bundle is the same keg/taps and comes with argon gas cartridges instead of CO2, which is what you would use for non-carbonated beverages, such as wine. Argon does not infuse the beverage with any bubbles/carbonation.

WHAT GAS DO I NEED? WHAT ARE THE DIFFERENCES?
-CO2 is used for carbonated beverages, as it helps maintain the carbonation, keeping the beverage fresh/fizzy.
-Argon cartridges are used for wine or non-carbonated beverages, as it will not infuse the beverage with any carbonation. It also prevents oxidation while the beverage it's resting in the keg, thus keeping it fresh longer.
-N2/Nitrogen is used for making nitro-beverages, such as nitro-cocktails or nitro-coffee. Nitrogen produces a smaller/finer bubble than CO2. Keep in mind, nitrogen is only compatible with the SquareOne-Nitro® keg. The original SquareOne® keg is not designed for the high pressure required for the use of nitrogen.

CAN I FERMENT HOMEBREWED BEER/KOMBUCHA IN THE KEG?
We have heard of many customers successfully utilizing their kegs for home brew setups. However, we would not recommend fermenting beverages in the keg, such as beer/kombucha, as the pressure fluctuations could damage the components if not monitored. There is a max usage pressure of 20 PSI for the SquareOne® keg and 45 PSI for the SquareOne-Nitro® keg.
CAN I MAKE SODA WATER IN THE SQUAREONE®?
The SquareOne® keg has the ability to store/dispense beer, wine, and cocktails, and sodas as well! The keg will assist in keeping your carbonated beverages fresh and carbonated via the use of CO2 gas cartridges. The CO2 will add a little carbonation, it also helps keep an already carbonated beverage carbonated. However, it is not a soda maker, so it will not add full carbonation to a non-carbonated beverage. For example, you could keep seltzer water fresh/carbonated in your keg but won't be able to make seltzer water. There is a regulator on the tap-system so that you can adjust the PSI, based on the beverage, until you get to your chosen pour/carbonation-level. Beverages typically stay fresh for up to two weeks!
HOW LONG DOES ONE CARTRIDGE LAST?
How long a cartridge will last depends on the amount of time you have the beverage resting in the keg, and at what PSI it is being stored at.
One CO2 cartridge typically lasts for an entire gallon fill. It will typically take 1.5-2 Argon cartridges for a gallon fill, and 3-4 for Nitrogen cartridges.
I NEED TO REFILL MY KEG, BUT THERE IS GAS LEFT IN MY CARTRIDGE. CAN I USE IT AFTER THE REFILL?
You can use your current gas cartridge for your next keg refill, if your keg is empty and there is gas leftover in the cartridge. First, ensure that the regulator valve is closed by turning the regulator to the OFF position. Then pull the pressure release pin, prior to opening the keg and removing the tap. You can then refill your keg and use the remaining gas after the refill. Note that you must leave the existing cartridge attached to the regulator during this process. Also, ensure that the regulator remains in the OFF position until you follow the steps to re-tap the keg; if you leave the regulator in the ON position when adding or removing a CO2 cartridge, or during the initial oxygen-purging step, it can cause the regulator to break.
WILL PULP IN MY BEVERAGE CAUSE AN ISSUE?
We do recommend limiting pulp in the beverage, as it can cause a clog if it is in a large enough amount. We have successfully used many fruit juices in mixed drinks, that have a light amount of pulp, and have not experienced issues! It would be best to do a good cleaning of the tap after a sugary beverage though, so that the sugars don't dry and become sticky within the tap and faucet-spout.
